::MATCH VIDEOZINE ARCHIVED NEWS::
1-18-05: We're going to make up for the last three days here with this update!
So here's the story. Right now I'm out in Portland hanging out with the McNutt family. They all race DH for Sinister but were a prevalent racing and trials family out east "back in the day". Anyways, I'm out here for a few days and things have been awesome. They have a tea cabinet, so I'm pumped on that. Also, this is the view from Clark's office...of the Willamett River. Amazing. Clark also has a collection of old Spooky frames!
We hung out with Eric and Sadie from Deity Components earlier this week and went to lunch at Benihanas. I had no idea that Green Tea Ice Cream even existed! It was pretty tasty, even though it looked radioactive. Also, I got introduced to Saki while I was at Benihanas..
Here is some art that hangs in the Deity office along with one of the desks in the office. And just to give you some perspective of how huge Eric is, look how badly he dwarfs this bottle of beer at the local safeway!
Also, what trip to Portland would be complete without a trip to BURNSIDE? This place is legendary, but it was a lot smaller than I expected. Still cool to check it out in person.
Random pics:
+Lenosky rail hop (Thanks Ryan Denehy)
+Pink Chris King hubs
+Dave Smutok air from SIC night (Thanks Fitzy)
+Chris Fitzy walltap
+Seth Lolli back in action
Here is the final bit of information for THE GATHERING. It is going to go down this coming weekend so get ready! Matchvideozine will be there in full effect!! I am going to be out in Washington and BC for a few more days to do some shooting with Nigel and the rest of the BC posse, so that should be fun (complete with a full-pipe sesh)!
Speaking of contests, check out the King of Rhythm contest info on Hcor.net...this is the contest that Joe Prisel and Rays MTB are putting on and it's going to be great. First weekend in February--mark it on your calendars!
----
1-15-05: I am heading to the west coast today to hang out with Eric at Deity Components and also to work on a top secret project with some others in Portland. It sounds like basically everyone except Lenosky, Ebbett, Senechal, George Ryan and Smutok will be at The Gathering. Ian Millar is going to be representing with Modestbike Issue 2...I can't wait to see it in person!
HACKSAW is also going to be there. Can't wait to see that guy again... I haven't seen him since the Bike Battle. He is bringing Peanut with him as well so I am fully prepared to be impressed by the Severt boys.
Carter Holland sent me an e-mail about his team rider Taylor Sage:
Black Market's secret weapon...DANGER SAGER A.K.A. TAYLOR SAGE dressed in the latest freeride prong gear.
----
1-14-05: I forgot to mention that we got to ride with Chad Kagy yesterday at Woodward. Super cool guy. Lenosky was riding with Brian Foster yesterday so I guess it was MTB + BMX day yesterday. The best was when Kagy walked in and looked at Joe's bike. He said, "It's got pegs...a shock...it's a Sledgehammer!"
Here are some pics from Ray's MTB. They added an outside jump line that is a TON of fun because you go really fast and high on everything. This is the step-up hip (and backside) and here is the box jump that you hit right after it. This box jump boots you up so high, and Joe just built a second jump after that as well. The contest in February should be a blast.
Speaking of the contest at Ray's MTB, the official contest will be on Saturday February 5th, but there is going to be a jam at Chenga World on the 6th for all of those who wanted to shred some park as well as Ray's.
It was 67 degrees in PA yesterday. If this weather keeps up, we are going to start working on the dirt jumps and ramps that will be setup next to the office (literally right next to it). We have a really good downhill-sloping section and a big pile of topsoil ready to go, so I'm pumped to get things rolling.
----
1-13-05: Joe Prisel and Pete Lungalow came over to hang out and ride today. We did some video stuff and then rode Woodward. We got there we were preparing the foam pit and then Joe fires off a double backflip into the foam first run and lands right-side up. I know that it was into foam but he would've stuck it if it would've been a box jump, guaranteed.
Random pics from today:
-2005 Deity cranks
-Black Mrkt frame jigs (being welded this week!!)
-This is my new home...Millheim, PA
-The view from the studio this morning
I am going out west on Saturday to work on some stuff in Portland...I think I should be able to update the site from out there, but just a heads up in case I can't make it work! Either way I'll have a crap-ton of pics when I return from The Gathering.
----
1-12-05: We spent the morning at Jade Tree Records and Darren was kind enough to hook us up with some new tracks! I got the new Strike Anywhere album "To Live In Disconnect" and it's fabulous!
Also, we got to hang out with Bosch tonight...he took DH and I to this awesome mexican restaurant. They had this salsa called something like "Salsa That Wakes The Dead." It was awesome!
Tomorrow Joe Prisel and Pete Lungalow are coming to hang out and ride Woodward...pics and screen captures to follow! When I was hanging out with Joe last week, he was quoting Napoleon Dynamite...and now that I'm watching it, I can't believe how dead-on his Napoleon Dynamite impression is!!
----
1-11-05: Holy crap, I actually have an update that pertains to Match Videozine! I captured a bunch of footage from the Canadian Heavy Metal Roadtrip that went down and here are some screen captures:
+Senechal wall tap...seriously...his back tire is above the front tire marks
+Chris Dzavik tabletop
+Craig Robinson 180ing over a handrail
Tonight I spent some time at Barnes and Noble...check out what I brought home. I figured with all of the traveling that I'll be doing plus the fact that I have a laptop--what better way to pass the time than to learn some new programs!
Tomorrow we are going to hang out at Jade Tree Records in Delaware!
Modestbike 2 is out!!!!! Go subscribe!
----
1-11-05: Here are some semi-comical screen captures of me jumping into the foam pit at Woodward yesterday...I was trying to explain to my friends and family back home what the foam pits are like, but these pictures probably do better justice than my words.
----
1-10-05: What a day...session at Woodward today with the crew and I saw some amazing stuff. Most of it is on the downlow until Counterparts comes out, but here are some pics from the day:
-George Ryan getting his wings on
-Lenosky's crew cut
-Porter, Chase, Lenosky, George Ryan and Jeff Mead all fit in this car plus bikes and gear!
-The foam
-Porters damaged front wheel
-Lenosky fixing Porter's wheel
-AC airing it out
When I got home, DH fixed up dinner...I guess the fine print in my contract includes weekly meals like grilled salmon salad (shown being prepared here). I love this job!
So today I locked down an apartment in Millheim which is 5 minutes from the DH Prodcutions studio and 5 minutes from Woodward. The best part is that when I was looking at the apartment, the lady was telling me about the free cable and I was like, "ah, it doesn't really matter, I don't even own a tv..." and said, "do you want one? the guy who used to live next door just up and left and left everything behind. We cleared everything else out, but his tv was TOO BIG to carry down the stairs, so we just left it." Needless to say, I'm now the proud owner of a new 32" tv.
---
1-10-05: Well, we're not wasting any time. I just got all my stuff organized and now Lenosky, Chase, Porter and George Ryan are coming to hang out today. I haven't seen them since the Bike Battle so it will be fun to ride and hang out with everyone again.
Speaking of the Bike Battle, I found the ramps today in Hampton's front yard. More on this as the ground thaws...we've got plans...
The DH office is 10 minutes from Woodward. We swung by today just to check out the scene. Holy crap, this place is even more amazing that you could ever fathom from seeing photos and videos of it.
BIG CONGRATS to AC and Kara for getting engaged!!!
----
1-9-05: Here are some pics of the office and other random items:
-My new desk
-The money shot
-View from the office
-DH's desk
-This is called a "jump drive", it holds 512mb and plugs into your USB
-This is what $3 will get you for coffee on the east coast
-The Don
---
1-9-05: I made it! 860 miles of driving and plenty of adventures along the way. I made a list of interesting/ridiculous/awesome stuff that I saw/heard/experienced between Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
1. Billboard advertising "Ho-made Pizza"
2. "Get Low" on my iPod?! (I have no idea how it got on there, I swear!)
3. Tony getting treatment at a mental hospital (see below for story)
4. Tolls doubled through Chicago!
5. Joe Prisel having a hard time deciding between Slayer and John Denver at the kareoake joint in Cleveland
6. 8" snow in 8 hours...it was dry when we got home at 3am...by the time we left the next morning, I had to clean off my car with a broom!
7. SILK=Soy milk...it sounds gross but tastes like a vanilla milkshake
8. BD's Mongolian BBQ
9. Joe Prisel doing an opposite hip flip at Rays
10. $3 for a 6oz cup of coffee
11. The new DH office (pics within the next few hours, I promise)
*Tony's mental hospital visit:
About a year ago, Tony Osusky destroyed his foot at some dirt jumps out in Arizona. They took him to the nearest hospital...they thought it was kind of weird that they treated him in the hallway, but as my mom always says, "beggars can't be choosers" so he couldn't complain that they were fixing up his busted foot. Anyways, there was a fiasco with the billing and now they just found out that the "hospital" that he was treated at was actually a MENTAL HOSPITAL!!
I am sitting in the new DH Productions office right now typing on my brand new Powerbook G4 Ti...this place is so rad. I am going to go grab lunch with the Hamptons and then I will snap a bunch of pics of the new digs and post them up.
----
1-6-05: We're back online! We had some trouble with the server but now everything is A-Ok. Just in time for me to head east. Twelve hours and I'm on the road to PA!! Pics to follow! Wish me luck, I'll be "livin' the dream" by the end of the weekend!
Check out some amazing pics of Ebbett!
Go to Alwaysmad.com and participate in the tsunami fundraiser...
----
1-4-05: Match 6 got a 9/10 in the new Decline. Holla!
Hacksaw just made my day. Git-r-done!!
Here's info for Chase's new video!!! (From the DH website)
Straight out of the camera of director Aaron Chase and directly to your DVD player, DH Productions is proud to present COUNTERPARTS. COUNTERPARTS the DVD strikes at the core of the soul of DH Productions and much like AC himself, it is raw, gritty and in your face with the most progressive riding ever to be captured on digital video. Over two years in the making, COUNTERPARTS is Aarons follow up to the enormously popular Killing Time DVD. Within the same style, follow ACs day-to-day activities as he circumnavigates the globe, hanging with the bros and shredding with whomever and wherever. Available on DVD from DH-PRODUCTIONS.com in April 2005. CLICK HERE FOR A PREVIEW
----
1-4-05: Speaking of Rays...some guys out in California built an indoor mtb park based on Ray's concept. It's called "The Skills Factory."
Also, Hacksaw is officially on EVIL if you didn't already know! I am hopefully going to have a great picture of The Saw by the end of the day. This one is worth the wait!
Black Mrkt Bikes...place your order now, the tubing has arrived and the jigs are being setup and everything. Carter is going to send pics of the progress!
----
1-4-05: Joe Prisel called today with all of the information for the February contest. Originally it was going to be held at Chenga Skatepark, but now the venue has been changed to Ray's MTB. Joe works there and has been building up a storm, so this is a good venue change in my opinion. Here's the info:
Ray's MTB: February 5th-6th
Beginner ($20)/Amateur ($25)/Pro ($35) classes
100% payback + $2000 cash prize
This will be a jumping contest with 8-10 jumps, sponsored by: Ray's MTB, Red Bull, Spin Bike Shop, Deity Components, DH Productions, 661, and Mongoose.
In other Ray's news, they are adding another 8,000 sq ft to their 60,000 sq ft building AND Ray just bought a heap of foam today, too!
I am going to be stopping at Ray's on my way out east later this week, so I will snap some new pics of the new boxes and lines at Ray's park.
----
1-3-05: I got an e-mail from Ryan Denehy:
Yo-- went on a little film sesh with Anson and Lenosky today. Anson 180'd
out of a manual and out of a killer sprocket grind on a high ledge. Jeff took his feet off the pedals for the first time and he also 180'd a double set with these scary blocks to run into at the bottom...it was killer despite the bad light. Hope the big move is going ok! Peace- Ryan
Thumbs up J-Lo. Must be the crew cut.. ;)
----
1-2-05: Congrats Paul B for getting hooked up on Race Face!
I'm at my parents' house this week getting ready for the big move and this morning I was digging through my old room and found a Mountain Biker magazine from 1997 with the nastiest pics of Shaums March in it! I'm going to try to unpack my scanner for this one.
I was super stoked when I found it, because there is an article in there from Shaums about how he used to ride tech lines back in the day (pretty much just find a curved rock as use it to clear the whole line)! Shaums was my hero even back in the day, so I'm going to have to bring that mag out west later this month and get him to sign it!
----
1-1-05: Happy new year! I think I won the award for least-exciting new years eve. Thanks everyone for calling in and sending your new years wishes...I had some pretty entertaining voicemails this morning.
I talked to Hacksaw earlier in the night and he informed me that he just slid his first 12-stair handrail!! He did it on a snowboard, so I guess we can officially add snow to his already wide range of shreddable-terrain.
I am officially moved out of my apartment and will be leaving for PA to start working for DH Productions this Friday. I'm going to make a pit-stop at Joe Prisel's house for a day or two so I can hang out and ride with him, then it's Go-Time!
-----
12-31-04: Yesterday was brutal...but I made it through my last day at work and now I'm just doing the last few loads from my ex-apartment and gearing up for my trip to PA. In fact, right after I update this page, my trusty G4 is going in a box. I'm not sure what my updating schedule is going to be like for the next week, but I'll try to find a source to keep the page updated. Either way, the posts on this site are going to be a lot more interesting once I get back on track out east.
Carter Holland called yesterday on his way to a Rev. Horton Heat show to let me know that the Black Mrkt frame materials were arriving at S&M this coming week and production will start immediately. More info as the frames become available.
I'm also going to be chillin' with Eric Davies from Deity in a few weeks, so maybe when he's not paying attention, I can snag some spy photos of the new Deity stuff!
Have a safe and happy new years! 2005 is going to kick @$$!!!!
----
12-30-04: Oh no, I'm hating life today...last night was insane! Fun times for all...plus I found out that one of my friends in Oshkosh--his daughter is dating DEAN PRITCHARD from Old School!! I took all these crazy pics with everyone but somehow I can't find them on my camera. I guess we're going to have to go out and do it again!!
....last day at my "real job" today before I move east...it's going to be a looooong day!
----
12-29-04: SIC/Geekhouse night pics!
-Dave Smutok hurricane sequence
-Dane (Sinister team guy?) bowl transfer
-The Shrewsbury bowl
Check out this page at Pinkbike, it has a ton of trailers and stuff. My favorite is the one for MPF Films "Self Titled". Dylan Tremblay is hilarious...I can't wait to see him next month while I'm out west.
Tomorrow night is my big going-away party in Wisconsin. If you want to join us tomorrow night, drop me a line or meet us at the V.P. in Winneconne around 6pm. It's GO TIME!!
DH just got DirectTV installed in the new DH studio...I can't wait to see this setup--every time I talk to him it gets more and more ridiculous. Pics will be up as soon as I get there, guaranteed.
Spomer is still updating his website...right now it's a portrait of Homer Simpson...this morning it was something that looked like a crayon rendering of a bowl of mashed potatoes or something. I'm hoping that maybe if I keep going to the website everyday, he'll eventually bring it back...
----
12-28-04: Joe Prisel called tonight to inform me of what he bought for his wife for Christmas. We should all be so lucky to have significant others as thoughtful as Joe:
-Shower curtain
-Carbon monoxide detector
-Two pair wool socks
-Bag of miscellaneous candies
-Box of Whoppers
I was boxing up a bunch of stuff in my apartment over the weekend and I found some of (my old roommate) Senechal's old clothing. Instead of trying to ship it over the border and deal with shipping, I'm just going to have an official SENECHAL BLOWOUT SALE!! All of these clothes were left in my apartment and have a guarantee on them that at one point or another, Ryan Senechal wore these clothes. You too can instantly fufanu ridiculously tall subrails and outdrink Americans just by wearing these clothes!! (not really)
Make me an offer on any of these fine items!
-Modestbike t-shirt
-Cavalry hoodie
-Cavalry t-shirt
-Cavalry trucker hat
-Tokens for 2/6th of a free pitcher at The Bar in Oshkosh
-Authentic green dealer visor from the real Las Vegas
Lastly, check out what Hampton gave me for Christmas!! What a perfect gift for me to turn around as bribes for my friends that will be helping me pack and move!!
----
12-27-04: Here's the list of Christmas loot so far:
-Jerrett Bellamy got a new knee!
-Santiago from Chile...I'm not sure but it looks like a new e.13 guard
-Ryan Denehy scored a new Sony PDX-10 and some new hard drives
-Hacksaw found a 'Git-R-Done' hat at the mall yesterday...can't wait to see those pics!
----
12-26-04: Merry Christmas!! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Yesterday was a crazy day to be driving, we saw tons of cars in the ditches...lots of people not being merry, that's for sure.
I got what I wanted for Christmas...a job on the east coast. I am seriously counting the days...I can't wait to be out there with everyone. Also, I'm going to be going coast-to-coast in a few weeks for The Gathering contest, then to the Abbotsford contest in BC then a few days with Ian Millar in Whistler. It sounds like Modest #2 is going to be out in time for The Gathering, so bring your Modest subscription $$ if you aren't already subscribed!
If anyone got any cool bike-related stuff for Christmas, send me some pics and I'll post it up here. If you got an issue of Match for Christmas, let me know and I'll give Santa the thumbs up.
----
12-24-04: Sorry for all the lack of updates lately, I'm packing up for my move to Pennsylvania and all that stuff. This is the calm before the storm, believe me. Once I get out east, it will actually be "my job" to keep this site updated.
In the meantime, have a Merry Christmas and when you're sitting by the warm fire, think of me because I'll be packing up and moving in -35 degree weather!
----
12-22-04: Goodbye 164productions.com. Thanks for updating your website with good stuff for the last few years, I really enjoyed it and I'm going to be sad to see the site go away. Shawn, if you ever want to do guest updates on the Match site, you are always welcome to hook it up on here. Thanks also for shooting the cover of Match 5.
If anyone is looking to fill the void of Spomer's website not being updated anymore, here are a few sites to ease the pain:
-catfishcatfish.com
-crailtap.com
-modestbike.com
-justwatchthesky.com
-apple.com
-403media.com
-alwaysmad.com
-elamenop.com
-dh-productions.com
Actually, while I'm on the subject...if you own a computer, go here.
----
12-21-04: We officially have snow in Wisconsin...and lots of it! I can't wait to get out east (where they still have snow, but they also have large indoor skateparks with foam)!
Talk about starting 'em young...I gave my son Teegan his first real bike for Christmas this year and he was STOKED! Check out his aero tuck, he's only 2 and he's got it dialed! Rockin' the Etnies and everything, he's going to be a shredder!
Lenosky and Chase are with Hampton doing some stuff at Woodward tonight. I have no idea what is going down but I'm sure its nasty. I also got my first look at the new DH studio today, but I left the pics at work by accident. 7 more days of "work" and then I am on my way out east to start work at DH Productions. Expect this little journal to get a lot more entertaining in the weeks to come!
Lastly, that european trip I was talking about is for Barcelona, Spain. The riders list isn't entirely confirmed but I do know that I'm probably going and that Hacksaw and Carter Holland are in for sure. There are three or four other rippers on the list that aren't 100% confirmed, but I will post the info when I get it.
----
12-20-04: Holy crap, only two more weeks of work and then I am on my way east!! I can't believe it! Hampton dropped me an e-mail to let me know that the DH studio now has over 1600gigs worth of hard drive space for me to fill up this year. Any bets on how long that will last?
There is a contest going on up in Ottawa the same weekend as The Gathering for those of you who can't make it to Washington. Check it out..
Also, I talked to Jeff Lenosky today and he reports that he's over the shaggy (frosted) look so he cut all his hair off into a crew cut. Now he looks just like he did back in the day...no word on whether that's a good thing or a bad thing yet.
----
12-19-04: Ok...I think my internet woes are behind me. Sorry about that. Here's some pics of Kathy Sessler's new backyard jumps, courtesy of Kirt Voreis and Cam Zink (who is still recovering from knee surgery but appears to be doing well!)
A lot of people ask me what the "DH" in DH Productions stand for. Just recently a German guy asked me and this was my reply for "D.H." Shortly after my reply, he ordered every single DVD on the DH Productions website.
There is a contest immediately following THE GATHERING. This second contest is an indoor dirt jump contest (I mentioned this before). Here is the link to some more information about it!! Also, here is the link to the webpage for the venue that it will be held at. Donahue tells me that the jumps are being rebuilt for the contest.
----
12-17-04: Sorry about not updating yesterday. Something is up with my internet connection at home (so I'm updating from work right now!!)
Last night I met up with Brian for a session at Undercover Skatepark. I was wearing my new J.D. shirt. I was overshooting the box jump and airing out of stuff and doing all kinds of stuff that I didn't think I could do. Must've been the shirt.
Brian Baldis and I were sitting on the deck and he was like, "I kind of want to try handplants over the street spine." Twelve tries later, he's got his feet on the pedals and is almost riding away from them clean. Whatever. I picked the wrong night to forget my camera at home.
Things I've seen in the past 24 hours:
1. Rollerblader with GIRL PANTS. I didn't think this combination was possible.
2. Chevy Cavalier with spinners
3. Sweatpants are now the new hot thing at the skatepark.
What is this world coming to?!
Songs from "Drop The Hammer" worth downloading:
-Shabazz the Disciple "Red Hook Day" (Gary Young's part)
-The Epoxies "Stop Looking at Me" (Morgan Wade's part)
-Encore ft. Pep Love "City Livin'" (Animal Roadtrip)
----
12-15-04: After you book your tickets for The Gathering, make sure to block off the first weekend in February for the Chenga contest that Joe Prisel is putting together. He got Red Bull confirmed to sponsor the best trick contest (as well as lots of free Red Bull for everyone at the event!!) plus I think we're going to try to do something at Ray's afterwards (or during) the event. Not sure on that one yet. I will post all the info when I get it.
Justin Schroth is trying to hookup a free iPod through that freeipods site...click here to sign up for the program through him and then e-mail him your mailing address and I guess he's going to send you money or something for signing up. I guess it's not really a free iPod if you pay people to hook you up, but whatever. I guess I can't blame him. I love my iPod!
Lenosky is out in Arizona right now...DH just moved into his new digs last week and is busy setting up the new DH Productions studio. I will post pics when he hooks me up!
If anyone out there has ever met JJ Gregorowicz's dad (Large Ed), you'll get a kick out of this. I e-mailed him to let him know that I was on my way out east and this was his reply:
"Whattya think Pennsylvainia is, the retirement community for old, washed up Trials riders???? We already got one, it's REAAAALLLLLL nice.... Jeeez. And since when does PSU offer special education classes???? Whatyya gonna
major in, Dairy Farming???? We don't need no stinking Blatz-guzzling, amateur video producing, "What, you call THAT a dab ?", 12 year old looking, Clearasil wearing CheeseHeads clogging the halls and classrooms of our fine Institutes of Higher Learning here in good ol' PA."
Joe Prisel and Afro Pat built a bunch of new stuff at Ray's. I guess there are some awesome berms, boxes and step-ups on the outside line now. Pics are on the way..
----
12-14-04: Check out the cover of Modestbike Issue 2. The Match 6 roadtrip article is in there, along with a bevy of other goodies. I've already seen the issue and it is nothing short of amazing. I think it is getting printed up this week...if you haven't already subscribed, now is the time to do it!
There is a european trip being planned right now for a handful of street/dirt rippers...more details as they come through.
Here is the information for the SIC Nights at Rye Airfield. Each night is going to have a showing of a DH Productions title, so they should be great events. I am going to try to get out to a few of those nights, since I'll be living out east in 17 days...
Here's a screen capture from this past weekend. That's me doing a fakie wallride at Area 51.
By the way, Nantucket Nectars "Half and Half" is the best thing ever. Half lemonade and half iced tea. Whoa.
----
12-13-04: I wrote something earlier that Mike Reisenleiter was getting married. Look at the nice (and tolerant) girl that agreed to marry this guy. ;-)
Easton from Madison hooked me up with a few screen captures tonight whilst I was in the process of capturing. Here are two icepicks, courtesy of Brian Baldis.
----
12-13-04: I just got home from work and I'm about to start capturing the footage from the weekend. In the meantime, here are some digi pics to tide you over:
-The Pacific (Mongoose) Office in Madison
-Brian's motivation for designing little girls' bikes (he is the Sr. product mgr for BMX/Youth bikes at Mongoose)
-Mongoose ad on Brian's office wall
-1970s Mongoose from eBay
-Mongoose Ritual in the stand
-Swapping out stuff during the Mongoose bike check (it's 24/26 convertible!)
-Mike Reisenleiter is ENGAGED now and is getting married this weekend
-Mike Reisenleiter's arm...
-Sunday night at B3's with Mike Steidley
Here are two random images: 1, 2
----
12-13-04: It's 1:30am and I just rolled in from a long day of riding and hanging out in Madison. Lots of good riding this weekend and it was great to see everyone. I will pull screen shots tomorrow after work. For now, I've got to get a few hours of sleep so I don't crash at work...it was a super long weekend, I think we must've clocked at least 15 hours of riding over the last two days...indoor and outdoor...good stuff. Pics are on the way!
Lenosky called me earlier today to let me know that he is now the Ned Overend of mtb-street. He got this incredible new XC bike from Giant and he says that he was getting sick of riding his bike downhill hitting dirt jumps and calling it a workout, so now he's climbing hills and singletrack in his free time to 'keep it real'...he also said that he's buying a digital camera, so now he's got no choice but to actually send pictures of all the stuff he tells me about!
Joe Prisel and Afro Pat are building a bunch of new stuff at Ray's MTB park, too. Joe said that they are doing another jump box section and a huge berm. They are going to be working on it all next week, so check it out if you're in the area (or want to conveniently *make* yourself in the area). Joe has been doing a lot of modifications and adding new stuff to the park. I haven't been there in about a month, but J-Lo and his crew reported last week that it was dope.
----
12-12-04: Go check out Modestbike.com, there are pics from the Match 6 roadtrip that didn't show up in Modest 2 (or the Match website). Also, scroll down on that page and check out some pics of Millar shredding the snow back in the day...
----
12-12-04: Nine hours of non-stop shredding!! Today was a blast. Tony O came down with the flu, so we all had to step it up in his absence. I learned fakie wallrides and fakie walltaps, so I was pretty stoked. Brian icepicked the subrail at Area 51 and did a bunch of other rad stuff. We had a good crew and everyone was having fun, which is most important!
Brian took a pedal to the back today. Nasty...I'll have more screen captures tomorrow (today).
Even better, I was able to track down "CRAP". I used to own this movie a long time ago but my VCR ate it for breakfast. They had a clearance rack at the skatepark, so I snapped it up tonight. I also got my hands on "Drop The Hammer". This is probably one of the most ridiculous bike movies on the planet. Morgan Wade is RIDICULOUS. YOU WILL soil yourself. I promise.
Tomorrow (today) we are meeting up at Four Seasons in Madison for a session...Mike R. from SRAM and Mike Steidley are coming out. I haven't seen Mike Sted since the Bike Battle, so it will be good to see him again. It's been a fun weekend so far, hopefully tomorrow won't disappoint.
Carter Holland hooked me up with this gem. It was taken at Long Beach skatepark. Carter was dodging crackheads on the way to this table.

12-11-04: Does anyone out there have any contacts for a rider-owned company that makes t-shirts and stickers (manufactures stickers and prints shirts, not just a company that has stickers!). I want to get some stickers and t-shirts printed, but I wanted to see if there was any riders out there with presses and sticker cutters and stuff like that who we could support instead of going down to some random shop. E-mail me with "stickers" in the title so I can get that sorted out.
Today is the big day...everyone in the Midwest is getting together for one last session before holiday mayhem hits.
Cam Zink is healing up from his knee surgery, and according to Hacksaw, Cam is already driving his car again (which has a stick shift).
We just got rights to use the band Disengage for Match 7. I'm going to be working on a bunch of (overdue) importing this next week, so I'll post up some screen captures when we get to it.
Today's quote: "Criticize by creation - not by finding fault."
----
12-10-04: Scott Hart is now on the matchvideozine.com staff as website fact checker and copy editor. Haha...just kidding Scott. Thanks for the catch, hopefully no one else saw "it."
This weekend is GO TIME for shredding in Wisconsin. This is kind of the last time we're all going to be together before things go haywire and we all move away...if you've been putting off a trip to Area 51 or Undercover, now's the time to show up!! Seriously I think we're going to take over the parks...a lot of people are coming!
Back to Scott Hart, he asked me to send him some pics for a Decline news segment about me moving out east to work for DH. Here is one of the pics I sent...kind of old, but probably one of my favorite pics of all time. The story behind the photo is even better...we were checking out of some random hotel in the middle of Kentucky or something and I see this guy in the hotel lobby. I nearly soiled myself.
Alwaysmad.com did a review of Match 6. I think it's a pretty fair review...check it out!
----
12-10-04: Last night was the first SIC/Geekhouse night at Shrewsbury skatepark...Justin Schroth was on hand to shoot some footy and also rip on his brand new bike! Here's a shot of Piper workin' on a fufanu...Thanks Justin for sending the pics!
I don't know how many other people out there are like me, I'm not fully stoked on the new Star Wars prequels, but since Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw in the theatre (like three years old on my dad's lap), I still am kind of curious to see how the new movies turn out. Here's a link to the trailer for Star Wars #3..
DJ Dangermouse...the guy who did the Grey Album...check out his website.
----
12-9-04: It's official. Hacksaw is officially out of the running for a visit this weekend. We are still going to march on with our plans for one last big midwest crew blowout this weekend. Here's the schedule:
12noon on Saturday: meet up at Area 51 skatepark
After supper: Shred Undercover skatepark for the night session
We've got plans to ride 4 Seasons in Madison on Sunday as well...Brian and I have to shoot some more stuff for the Mongoose Ritual bike check for Match 7 at the office in Madison, so we're going to ride before we get to that.
Most people already know, but Dimebag Darrell from Pantera got shot yesterday. I got an e-mail from Hacksaw about it...throw some horns and read Modestbike's journal for the full details.
Lance Trappe was back home to Jersey this weekend. He was part of the crew that went to Ray's MTB in Cleveland. I guess they were all psyched on the riding at Ray's. I do know that Lance and Chase did alley-oop walltaps, but then Lenosky did the same thing, except he did the alley-oop backwards--he went from the landing and alley-ooped back into the transition. Whoa.
----
12-8-04: This weekend is now in limbo. I got a voicemail from Hacksaw saying that he might not be able to make it now. Apparently there was a miscommunication with the plane tickets or whatever. Fingers crossed for Hacksaw to make it to the midwest!!
We are still riding no matter what this weekend!!!
Speaking of riders in the midwest, I got a voicemail last night/this morning from Lenosky and crew and by the sound of things, they are having a great time in Cleveland.
Holy crap, I got heard the Grey Album tonight and it's actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be. For the uneducated, the Grey Album was a mix put together by a DJ (DJ Dangermouse) who mixed Jay-Z's Black Album with the Beatles' White Album. Crazy. Jay-Z is the President/CEO of Def Jam now, too, in case you didn't already know.
Modest 2 is nearly done. The cover is amazing. It's in a vertical format now and you're going to see it all over the place.
----
12-7-04: Anson is going to soil himself when he sees this. Chris Donahue found this intersection near the airport in Vancouver.
Did you know that Donahue has pop? Check out this page for more pics and stuff...
----
12-7-04: Check out the new Geekhouse website!
Senechal's trip to Cleveland turned out to be a success, they hit Chenga 2 and did some street riding with Joe Prisel.
Lenosky, Chase, Lance Trappe and Chris Clark are headed to Cleveland tonight...last I heard, they were about 170 miles away in Jeff's RV. I think the main goal is to hit Ray's MTB...they might be able to hit Chenga if there is anything left of it after this past weekend's FBM contest.
In other Lenosky news, he has a 7' miniramp sitting in his backyard (in pieces). Apparently they need a bunch of gravel to level out an area for it. Porter told me that it's actually an old vert ramp that was cut down, so the transitions are relatively forgiving.
I talked to Donahue yesterday and the post-Gathering dirt contest is THE NEXT DAY. So now it's technically three days of contests in a row. The organizer has 5 trucks of red clay and they've recruited the help of Shaums March and Chris Donahue to plan it out. It's going to be somewhere in BC, I will post up more info when I get it.
Jose from JoeMamma bikes dropped me a line to let me know about this contest in Ottawa, Ontario. There is a $2000 purse and the skatepark is 15,000 square feet. There is going to be info posted here soon.
Here is a link to a thread for The Gathering contest. It has all the updated info including confirmed riders. The organizer told me that Kirt Voreis confirmed today and the rest of the riders on the list look pretty nasty, so I am definitely marking this one on my calendar.
Here's a random link worth checking out for the winter.
----
12-6-04: Jaromir Spesny from the Czech Republic has his video segment from the movie "Contrazt" online. Download it here! Jaromir has a super cool style, he was a world champion trials rider and now he's combining street and park skills with his trials stuff and good things are happening!
Also, Ryan Denehy has a new trailer for The New Deal. Footy of Anson, Lenosky, Donahue, Carter Holland and more!
Donahue mentioned something about another indoor dirt jumping contest in BC a few days after The Gathering. If anyone has more info on that, let me know. I will post it up here, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go to that one as long as I'm out there. I haven't been to BC in like four years, plus I figured that maybe I could go noboarding with Millar in between the comps.
HACKSAW IS COMING THIS WEEK TO WISCONSIN!! We are going to do this and this and this and this. We finally got some snow on the ground here last night, so maybe we'll go shred on snowmobiles or something like good Wisconsinites do at this time of the year. A couple years ago New York got slammed with snow and everyone was freaking out. I was looking at a report a little while back and it said that the snow New York got that year was the same as the AVERAGE snowfall in Wisconsin.
----
12-5-04: Whoa. I just saw the layouts for Modestbike #2 and it's Reeeeeeee-diculous. If you don't pick up this issue...plain and simple--you're OTB. Holy crap, it's so good...the photography and design is better than anything I've ever seen in my entire life.
Speaking of Modest 2, I just wrapped up the Kirt Voreis interview. I've never really had much chance to talk to Kirt in the past, but I was really impressed by his style. The guy is all about promoting the sport of mountain biking and has this love for it like I've never seen. It was awesome to see how he wasn't really partial to any particular style of riding, he just had love for every way that you can manipulate the mtb. I was stoked on hearing what he had to say, check it out next month when you get Modest 2 in your hands.
Senechal was in Cleveland this weekend, I think. I didn't hear much about it but when I talked to Joe Prisel yesterday he was like, "I talked to Senechal and he was coming down to ride Chenga, but apparently he didn't know that there was a huge FBM contest there this weekend...so I don't know what he's going to do." Oops!
Only a few more weeks until I'm on the east coast. Lenosky already has me recruited to help him build the dirt jumps for the Jump Jam this year...
I have some more info for The Gathering contest in January. I will post it shortly. I am going to be out in Portland/Seattle/BC for about a week and a half, I'm hoping to make it up to Whistler for some mega-snowboarding. I don't even know how to snowboard but maybe Whistler is a good place to learn? "Just close your eyes and go for it, dude!!! AAAhhhhhhh!!!"
----
12-3-04: Welcome to the newest version of the Match site (ok, so all I did was change the background...) In addition to the new colors, I made an ad to match the website...it will be in Modest Issue 2! Modest 2 is almost done, I just need Kirt Voreis to call me back so I can finish his interview!! KIRT--IF YOU'RE READING THIS, CALL ME BACK!!
Ryan Denehy's "The New Deal" is coming out in February. You can pre-order it at the Eastern Front website and get a bunch of free Evil/e.13 swag with it.
Lenosky says that the new mini-ramp is going in "Nastyland" today!! (I'm coining his backyard nastyland due to all the nasty riders and nasty stuff he has back there now.)
----
12-3-04: The first batch of Match 6 sold out in Europe in 10 days! Thanks to everyone over there that hooked it up. We've got plans to go across the pond to visit you in 2005, so I will thank you all in person as soon as I get the opportunity. If you live overseas and want to hook up a copy of Match 6 when they get restocked (which should be within the next week), go to MaliceOnline.
Littermag is up!! Check out the pic of Scott Hart...I never realized the Luke Skywalker connection until I saw them side-by-side. Hilarious. A couple years ago at the Boston Bike Battle, I gave Scott Hart the LAST original Match Videozine t-shirt (the ones that say 'will ride for food' on them)...Yeah, I literally gave him the shirt off my back after the event pre-party. This year at the Bike Battle he was telling me about how a few weeks earlier he had to put in a little hotel-bathtub-laundry-work to keep the shirt...apparently he almost had to burn the shirt due to extreme intoxication while wearing it (and the mess that eventually 'erupted' onto it). Enough of that, I'm glad he held onto the shirt and still rocks it out from time to time.
SIC/Geekhouse nights are starting up soon. We are getting all the info tomorrow for dates and times.
There is a huge war going on in the trials world right now. The NATS Committee (they run some of the best national comps in trials) decided to combine both mod and stock classes for their contests. I can't say that I blame them...stock bikes look like mods now, and mod bikes ride like stock bikes. The line is definitely blurred. I think I'm going to go to Motorama this year to see it firsthand, since I'll be living about an hour away..
Senechal got a parts package from Norco the other day and is now happy to report that he is once again rockin' the front brakes!
----
12-2-04: Lenosky is getting a 7' mini ramp for his back yard! That brings the count to one mini ramp, one curved wallride and every other dirt and north shore bridge combo you could ever need. It's the new NASTYLAND. I will post pics when I get them (ahem...)
Ian Millar was right about the "Go! Team"...sort of atypical music but I liked it anyways. Find it on Limewire or whatever..
Speaking of Ian Millar, I spent all night working on the Match ad for Modest #2, only to find out after completing it that the new issue of Modest is going to be vertical instead of horizontal. Back to the drawing board...
----
12-1-04: Let the countdown begin! One month until I'm on the east coast!
Get well soon Cameron Zink...rumor has it that he had knee surgery last week to repair some stuff. I didn't really get any details. Also, Cam had some DH forks to sell. If anyone is interested in them, e-mail Hacksaw and he'll give you the info.
We will be attending The Gathering contest out in Renton, WA in January...I do believe that I'll be sticking around for a few extra days out in BC to hang out and do some more shooting. No real plans yet, but apparently there is another contest going on up in BC a few days after The Gathering.
Modestbike Issue 2 is almost ready to go. I'm in the process of finishing the Voreis interview and then I think we're all wrapped up. Ian has shown me a few layouts and stuff...issue 2 is going to be ridiculous. Subscribe!!
Joe Prisel is now working full-time at Ray's MTB...helping run the front door plus building more stuff for the park. He is really enjoying it so far, so make sure to say Hi to Joe next time you're shredding Ray's..
Shawn Spomer added a blog area on his page for Jason Smith...check it out, it's hilarious.
----
11-29-04: Here come the screen captures from my session with Tony/Dakoda Osusky and Eddie Schneider from this past weekend. There are also a few other pics that got sent in as well. Here goes:
Tony's quarter gap (Scrap skatepark)
Tony one-foot table
Tony one-foot table 2
Tony x-up one handed walltap
Tony x-up one hand abubaca subrail (4 Seasons Milwaukee)
Eddie transferring from the spox to the jump box takeoff
Aaron (me) abubaca on the subrail
Dan Bowhers disaster
Carter Holland wallride (photo by Ian Hylands!)
Check out riderowned.com, this is a new site dedicated to rider owned companies. They are still putting up the info, so I guess this is more of a sneak peak.
SOLE Custom Footbeds put together a video with all of their riders. There is some other stuff in there, but if you wait it out you can see some stuff from Nigel Q, Chris Donahue and Joe Prisel.
Oh yeah, we were shooting some footage with Donahue for Match 7 and he pulled a bunnyhop barspin to sprocket barspin to fakie. WHAT!
Black Market Bikes just updated their website with contact info...so if you're salivating over the bike, drop Carter a line and get signed up to get one of the first Black Mrkt frames!!!
I think we are going to organize an east coast tour when I come out there officially. I need to get "acquainted" with my new region, so I think I'm going to try and do a loop once I get out there. I owe the boys at Evil a visit anyways and it's been almost six months since I crashed Lenosky's house...maybe we'll do a little roadtrip and post pics and stories each day from each spot. Who knows...but I gave my notice today at work so as of January 1st, I'm on my way east!!
----
11-28-04: I just returned from a fabulous weekend with the Osusky family. We sessioned Scrap skatepark on Saturday and then Four Seasons in Milwaukee today. It was fantastic. We brought Eddie with us as well and the crew collectively shredded everything in sight. Scrap has been changed around quite a bit since we were there last. Tony's words: "Scrap is crap."
Scrap took out a full section of their park, got rid of a coping spine and cut the box jump down. There were still plenty of things to shred but I was a little disappointed, especially since the last setup was so perfect.
Here are some random pics from my digital camera...I am going to be doing some screen captures of the riding that went down this weekend. Things went well, even I was doing video-worthy stuff....I abubaca'd this sub-rail at 4 Seasons today that I've been looking at for a while. It took a few tries but I finally stuck it and I was stoked!
Random pics:
-The iced tea binge continues
-Tony Osusky stoked AND eating...a rare combination
-The early-morning shred from today...I got to ride the 70 next to Tony..
-Red Bull machine...apparently these are everywhere except the midwest, why are we always the last to know?!
-Overview of what's left of Scrap (see Tony's comment above)
-Eddie Schneider, this kid has POP!
-Dakoda biting the growing-out-my-hair style...
-Tony bummed on breakfast
-Tony driving in crazy weather and traffic through Chicago to Scrap
I will put up the screen captures as soon as I possibly can. Tony told me that he wants me to put up some riding pics on the website instead of stories about him complaining about food. Should I string him along for a couple more days or update with riding pics? He just got a new SIC stem on his bike and has been riding really hard lately. Screen captures on the way!!
Zio Ziegler of Mill Valley, CA sent some pics. He's 16-years old...pics by Rik Rogers.
CANADIANS: If you live anywhere near Toronto and you want to help get bikes into more skateparks, please contact Alixander Beck and see what you can do to help him out. He's meeting with a bunch of important city officials and needs your opinions and support. E-mail him and get the ball rolling.
11-26-04: Welcome back, I hope that everyone had fantastic Thanksgivings!
Ok, here is the news that I've been holding onto for a while...I didn't want to say anything until I was sure that it was going to happen, but now it's basically a done deal:
I'M MOVING TO THE EAST COAST!!!
I am going to be working full time at DH Productions starting in January of 2005. This is going to be a big step for not only Match Videozine but DH Productions as well. I will be out there working on our vids full-time and hopefully getting around to capture all that is nasty in the world of mountain biking. I am going to be living near Penn State (and Woodward!) so I can be near the newly-built DH Productions HQ. I will post up pics and stuff of the brand new studio when we get it together. We've already got a Red Bull fridge, so things are looking good.
I'm psyched on this move. It means that I'll be able to update this site a ton more in the future with better content, plus I'll be able to put my full efforts into video production...I've been wanting to move to the east coast since I graduated high school, so this is fully one of my dreams that is being fulfilled right here. I hope that the east coast is everything that I've perceived it to be in the last near-decade of visits.

Ryan Denehy from Eastern Front put together a vid yesterday (Thanksgiving) in memory of Jeremy Demers. Download it here!
Here is Ryan's story behind the vid:
Yesterday being thanksgiving and all I was reflecting on how I've been fortunate enough to be able to make a mountain bike film. I realized that what makes mountain biking and film making so great is the people you meet along the way...people like Jeremy. I took the photos and video that I had of him and his artwork and put together a tribute video of sorts. Its about 3 minutes long. it was really hard to edit a piece about someone that is no longer with us, hard because it brought back all the memories. In the end its things like this that remind me that Jeremy is still here watching over us.
----
11-24-04: Oops. I made a mistake. Joe Perrizo's flip off that cliff was a FRONT FLIP, not a BACK FLIP. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?! Somewhere in Utah Phront Phlip Phil is bummed.
Why isn't this kid sponsored? Front flips off cliffs....backflips out of trees....what more do you team managers need?! Contact me and I'll hook you up with his info.
Speaking of nasty riders, Doug Fink hooked me up with some pics today. Enjoy!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans. I'm going to visit some family tomorrow and I'm not sure if I'll be able to update from the house or not...so if we don't get an update tomorrow, just dig through the archives for entertainment. ;-)
----
11-24-04: Did you all miss this pic that I posted the otherday? I haven't heard the uproar that I usually hear about things of this caliber. Am I the only one who thinks that backflipping off a cliff on a bike with a rigid fork is absolutely insane?
Happy birthday Justin S...send us real pics otherwise we'll keep showing everyone that pic of you with the fruitboots!
My album of the week: Pinback "Blue Screen Life". This is a fantastic album if you're looking for some semi-mellow music to work to or just chill out to. My favorite song on the album at the moment is "Seville". Track it down if you have some free time over the holiday weekend.
We are having a year-end get-together on December 10th if anyone wants to come to the midwest and hang out. Right now it sounds like Hacksaw, Gooch and Mike Steidley are coming out to hang for the weekend. Tony O and his posse will be in effect, too. The plan is to go to a Rev. Horton Heat show, eat Pizza Shuttle, ride and party it up in Milwaukee all weekend. It's GO TIME!!
Happy day-before-Thanksgiving!!
----
11-23-04: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DON HAMPTON!!!!
Who's got tickets to the gun show? Holy crap, Lance Trappe has the arms of a football player. Awesome bike rider for sure, but am I the only one who thinks he should be playing in the NFL??
Kyle Ebbett is part of the Deity crew!!! Check out the news page at Deitycomponents.com for more info..The Deity team is so rad, look at that team roster! The components are dope and Eric, the guy running the show, is quite possibly one of the raddest dudes in the bike industry. No joke, this guy has mad style. Read his interview on Bustedspoke and you'll see what I mean.
I think we're going to be getting together in the midwest over the weekend to shred if anyone wants to hookup. Tony Osusky was shredding so hard the other night (no-footed can to no-footer over the smallest box jump ever, nasty walltaps, etc) and I didn't have my camera with me (because I was riding, too!). I will post location info when we get it dialed. We might be in Louisville, Chicago, Milwaukee, or somewhere completely random.
Tomorrow is Justin Schroth's birthday. Fruitboots represent!!
----
11-22-04: Check this out...Julien from Europe sent me this graphic today! I was so stoked...my iced tea obsession is now a worldly force!
I have some REALLY big news to drop on this site but it's not 100% confirmed yet, so I'm holding back...it pertains to the future of Match Videozine (hint: it's good). I am really excited about the future of Match Videozine and I would first and foremost like to thank everyone that comes to this site everyday and supports Match Videozine. We couldn't do this without you, so THANK YOU!
There is a contest going on out west in January called The Gathering. Here is the info for it:
Gohuckyourself.com is hosting a unique and history making MTB competition you do not want to miss! We are organizing a rider created competition which celebrates the progressing styles of our sport. We are hoping for your participation to make this one of the first “Must Go” events of the 2005 season.
The Gathering will be held on January 21 & 22 2005. A DJ competition will be held on Friday at Renton Motorcycle’s Wide Open Sports Arena, an amazing indoor motorcross facility where riders will huck over a custom designed course with some real creative options. You can see this venue at www.wideopensportsarena.com. The park competition will be held on Saturday at Skatebarn West in Renton, WA. Log on to www.skatebarn.com for pics of the park. Both venues are very close to hotels, bars, restaurants, approx. 15 minutes from the airport, and are about a block apart from one another. Incredibly both events will be indoors! A cash purse will be awarded to the top three riders in each Open Class event, with a bonus to the Overall Champion. Amateurs will receive top notch prizes for the top three riders in each Amateur event, and the Overall Ametuer Champion will receive a Factory Sponsorship by Gohuckyourself.com.
Entry fee for the event will be $40 per night for Am’s, $60 for both, and $50 for Open Class per night or $75 for both events.

OMIGOD, Check out what Joe Perrizo sent me...is that a backflip off a cliff? I think so...
----
11-21-04: Update on the Jeremy Demers shirts...E-13/Evil will be taking on the sales of the shirts, so next week they will have ordering information on their website for the shirts.
Also, S&M Bikes will be taking care of sales for the Black Mrkt bikes, so if you want to snag one of those, give them a call!
----
11-21-04: I'm at a big crossroads right now. My friend Chris from the UK offered up some solid advice in his blog.
Here are some pics of Kirt Voreis from that Quebec contest that was held earlier this year.
Ray's MTB opens this week (Tuesday for members, Friday for non-members) in Cleveland. Go check it out (and don't forget to try out BD's Mongolian BBQ!)
----
11-20-04: Does anyone else think that Beef Ramen tastes just like the Oriental flavor?
Here's a story from last night....we went riding at Undercover with Tony and Dakoda Osusky, Eddie Schneider (holy crap this guy goes soooo high out of quarters, boxes and spines) and Charlie. The session was good, but then we went to this mexican restaurant across the street afterwards. I've been there before and it's pretty good...so we're mid-chips and salsa and Tony gets up and walks out of the restaurant. Everybody's like, "What the..?" as we watch Tony drive away from the restaurant. We continued eating and as we finished up, Tony comes back into the restaurant. He bagged it and went to Subway instead! He said that he looked at someone else's plate and didn't see any grill marks on the chicken fajita or whatever and got freaked out. Tony officially wins the Match Videozine Award for pickiest eater on the planet!
Today I'm writing a story for Modestbike about the Match 6 trip, the Links Jam and Rye Airfield. It's going to be a novel, but I saw the graphic layouts for it and it looks amazing, so now I've got to produce!
----
11-20-04: Here's a bit of trivia for you...everyone has seen that pic of Lenosky in the Wendys gear (if not, go pick up the first issue of Modestbike). But did you also know that Marc Landry and I both worked 6+ years at McDonalds in our childhood?! Granted, it was a while ago for both of us but it's always entertaining to find out who has slung burgers and stuff like that. For the record, I am the best big mac maker on the planet. I will crush anyone, guaranteed.
Here are some pics from Jared Jesperson in Calgary!
The video segment/favorite song poll is up and nearly completed...just waiting for a few more replies. Check it out below.
----
11-19-04: I asked a couple guys the following question and this was the response. I'll post more info as the rest of the crew returns my voicemails:
"If you could have a video part (of yourself) edited to ANY song on the planet, what would it be?"
-"The Weight" The Band: Joe Prisel
-"The Show Must Go On" Grim Reaper: George Ryan
-"London Dungeon" The Misfits: Aaron Chase
-"Mr. Jones" Counting Crows: Jeff Lenosky
-"Livewire" Motley Crue: Tony Osusky
-"Sick Boy" Social Distortion: Carter Holland
-"94 Hours" As I Lay Dying: Aaron Lutze
-"Cause=Time" Broken Social Scene: Ryan Senechal
-"Built to Last" Sick of it All: Hacksaw Jim Severt
-"Satanist" The Crown: Jared Jesperson
----
11-18-04: The plaid was up for long enough. It really polarized everyone...some people liked it and everyone else hated it. Here comes background #2. More to come. Nigel Q was giving me a hard time tonight and I was like, "dude, you're a graphic artist, whip something up!" Now the pressure's on, so let's see if Nigel can deliver. ;-)
Jaromir Spesny from the Czech Republic sent me some pics from a calendar that they are printing as well as his latest Etnies ad. He also sent me a link to vid from a mtb/bmx contest over in Czech. I think Jaro got like fourth place in this event..
Joe Burkell sent pics from last week's Steel City Jam. Pics by Steve Miller: 1 2 3 4
Anson Wellington pics!! FDR gap // boost // rail hop
You can find more Anson pics and other riders and stories at: Brooklynbikeriders.com
----
11-18-04: YES! Raditude from Carter Holland!! (see the post from Tuesday) Thanks Ryan Denehy for the pics!
Joe Prisel called tonight...he let Brian Striker from Cleveland ride his Black Mrkt bike tonight and he tailwhipped the box at Chenga to pedals on his FIRST TRY. That was after he barspun the box first try, of course.
I had one of my buddies over tonight and we watched Van Wilder. I bought eclaires for dessert and served them up right before the infamous eclaire scene. It was so wrong but I couldn't stop laughing when his face turned green mid-scene/mid-eclaire...if you haven't seen this movie, sit down with a plate of eclaires and check it out. Hilarious.
I heard a crazy rumor of another possible addition to the Evil Bikes team. I will post it when I get confirmation, but it's going to blow your minds, I promise. Speaking of Evil, check out the look on Dave Weagle's face in this pic from the '03 Bike Battle post-party.
Chris Ratcliff from the UK dropped me a line to let me know that handrails are getting done over on his side of the pond. The guy who does them is insane...he was also jumping double sets of stairs on a rigid fork....ridiculous.
Speaking of crazy riders with rigid forks, Joe Perrizo has broken 6 or 7 rigid forks (along with his pinky) whilst shooting for Match 7. I've only seen a few screen captures so far but I'm sure that it's insane stuff...
