What did you do before shredding street, park and dirt on mtb?
I raced and rode both BMX and MTB Dual and DH plus a little moto and Racing Carts plus all the other things we all do.

If you could have three sponsors that had nothing to do with bikes, what would they be?
Ferarri, Slayer and the dudes who own the Sacramento Kings and the Palms in Vegas.

What is your best memory from riding?
It seems that there are so many...the Match roadtrip was really a great time. This is a hard one...I wanna say anytime I am on my bike is my best memory, that and when I was a kid riding with this dude Sam Hite in Ohio he was and still is my insprition.

Why is Reno such a great place for riding?
The weather rules when almost everyone else is in -10 weather with 8" of snow its 45 degrees here and we have four seasons to work with. Plus all my friends here, they are all a bunch of great guys and girls we have a ton-o-fun in the RNO.

Where did the nickname "Hacksaw" come from?
The Sherman Way Posse, Norm , R-Bar, Tony, Palm, P.A, Scary Gary, Ralph, and everyone else all
came up with it on a drunken free for all one night...it is a real long story...(Editors note: I'm going to try to paraphrase the story right now. Hacksaw and his buddies were wrestling and suddenly they all stopped throwing down when it was realized that Hacksaw--Jim Severt at the time--did not have a nickname and he was the only one in the crew without a nickname. They came up with "Hacksaw" and immediately following his renaming, Shaun Palmer made a smart-ass comment about Hacksaw's new name which evoked Hacksaw to re-start the wrestling match, crushing numerous bad-@$$es into the mud and cementing the Hacksaw monicker into the books forever.)

What influences you more, bmx riders or mtb riders?
Both, I think that there are two completely different styles of riding there, and I am starting to see some MTB style going back over to BMX which is cool.

Favorite video part of ALL TIME (bmx/skate/mtb)
A few...First my most favorite part ever is Taj's part in the first UGP Video to Sabbath...then there is the entire Anthem video which was years ahead of its time as far as progression of riding. The Props interview with Marc Gonzales where he does it in Spanish that f-n thing is a gut buster, I
liked Sam Burkhardt's part in that No Recess video, and anything Lenosky does for video is rad also.

What area of riding do you focus most of your time on:
Having fun, I try to spread it out to dirt, street, park, race and trials too.

Going huge, progression or flow?
Flow. But if you do one the others will follow, everything in any order will help the other. Thats why I
love to ride....

Name the top five things that have happened to the sport of mtb in the past year.
Paul Basigotia & Joe Prisel stepping things up, Tara Llannes ( I love her she is tops every year in my book), the loss of Jeremy Demers he was always and still is an inspiration to us all, Match 6 roadtrip--a lot of progression went on during that week...

If you had to move away from Reno to another area, where would you go?
Maybe Jersey to ride with Lenosky plus I hear that Porter and Chase live there, or Austin Texas . No So. or Nor Cal for me or Hollywood.

What other things hold your interest aside from riding?
Music, video and photography, and Rally Car racing (Rally Cars are in my near future), art, writing and politics.

Top three favorite bands of all time:
Sick of it All , Johnny Cash , Guns-n-Roses

You were in a band....what was that like?
I played in a Straight Edge Hardcore band named Unconquered. It was really fun playing bass with kids
crawling all over you during shows going f-n nuts, but the business side of music sucks ass if I could just survive off of playing shows that is what I would love to do. There is nothing better than seeing kids
sing songs that I had a part of creating plus the hardcore kids are so passionate about music--its radical...

Do you have any good (short) stories about being in the band....any memorable shows or extracurricular stories?
Erie, Pa we were dead broke and getting ready to scrap the rest of one of our tours, we showed up and it was a mad house 1000 kids going apeshit I got my knuckle broken during the first song and played the whole set with my finger out of place ,then we sold almost a third of our merchandise after we played which paid for the rest of our tour . All the stories about girls and rock stars are true also and we were not that big of a band...

If you could instantly learn one trick, what would it be?
Tough question...I would say truckdrivers, it is such a rad trick to see.

What words of wisdom do you have for the other riders out there?
Ride your bike and have fun with your friends that is what it is all about. Don't sweat the small stuff and do skids--man they are the funnest.....

What additional perspective do you think you have as a "senior" rider? What do you think of the younger generation of riders?
Senior???? Like I'm old or sumptin'!! I guess I look at things a little different than say Paul Basigotia and Zink or Peanut, I like to think that sometimes if I offer advice the younger kids they might listen. For that matter I also suggest listening to Lenosky, Carter Holland, Donahue, Ebbett, Shaums, Spangler and a host of others. I know that we (the riders) need to control our own destiny and us "seniors" as you refer to us have real good advice to offer. The youngsters are steppin' up the game hourly which is truly amazing--but they lack patience and common sense to some aspects of riding which comes with age and experience...not to take away from anyone who slings their leg over a bicycle just age rules the world.

Have you seen an increase in the exposure that you've gotten as a rider over the past year? What is it like to be recognized at skateparks and stuff?
An increase that is an understatement. I never had any real exposure before I guess cause I was always in the right place but at the wrong time. Now I have gotten my picture taken by the best action sports photographers and videographers in the world in the last 12 months--do you know what that means to me? I am so grateful...it is rad to be at a park or anywhere and have kids say "Hey Hacksaw" or ask questions and want to ride...its like a dream that I don't want to end.

Describe your experience on the Match 6 roadtrip....what was your favorite part? Also, what is something about the roadtrip that most people wouldn't understand by watching the segment?
That trip was off the hizzle! ECT and getting a chance to ride there again, and NYC were my definite highlights...watching everyone go off was amazing plus making new friends--and a chance to see Ground Zero. That was kind of a wake up call for me. As for something you might see in Match 6 that you may not understand...it involves a Towel, and thats all I have to say about that: "remember always bring a towel..."

Anyone you would like to thank....
First and foremost I want to thank my Dad, he has always been an inspriation to me and I never had a chance to say that to him but I do what I do because of him. Thanks Dad and I love you and my Mom and my two wonderful sisters Sue and Karen, I am proud to be part of our family. PEANUT, Paul Girard and Makin' a Scene Productions...My buddy Aaron Kon"RAD", Lenosky, Povey, J.S 15HUN, Jack, Smooth
